HISTORY:
Since 1955, Shilen Barrels have been used by some of the worlds top Benchrest shooters winning and setting numerous world records. Today, Shilen Rifles, Inc continues to be one of the largest supplier of competition barrels in the world.
All barrels are buttoned rifled, and air guaged to ensure consistency and accuracy. The Reg. match barrel's bore must measure within .0005" of our standard diameter and cannot vary in diameter more than .0003" for the length of the barrel. This provides performance well beyond that offered by most factory barrels.
The Select Match barrels specifications are even tighter as the groove diameter must air gauge within .0003" of our standard diameter. Moreover, the uniformity of the bore cannot vary more than .0001" for the entire length of the barrel. That is truely match spec. and the grade chosen by competition shooters. This is the grade used to set Shilen's many records over the years.

Barrels are completely stressed relieved and SS barrels are lapped to a gleaming surface finish.
The CM can also be lapped for an additional charge but the ones that I have seen looked amazing and there have been little complaints of fouling to report.

My personal SS Select match 223 barrel has yet to show any signs of copper fouling from the very first rd fired.
With modern production capabilities, Shilen can now offer a wide variety of contours, calibres and twists to suit any shooters needs from the African Savannah to stabilizing the highest BC VLD for precision LR competition.
One of the most exciting products Shilen offers are prethreaded and chambered barrels for the Savage and Stevens rifles. This makes it very quick and easy to swap factory barrels for a competition ready barrel or a way of trying new chamberings.
All prethreaded/chambered barrels come completely ready to install even with a competition quality crown. The CM are very nicely blued and the SS are polished (bead blast matte is available).
There is a choice of 4 contours and over 150 chamberings.
Most new competition and wildcat chambers like the 6.5X47 Lapua, 6.5X284 Win, 260 Improved, 6XC, 20 Practical, and 338 EDGE are also available.

Prefit barrels for 10/22, Ruger Mini 14's and AR15's are also available.

McGowen also offers prethreaded and chambered barrels for the Savage and Stevens actions. 4 contours are offered with lengths going beyond 30" in some cals. Their chamber selection is not as broad as some suppliers but they can rent most any reamer for a small fee.

They also offer one of the fastest turnarounds in barrel production. In some cases as little as 1/3 the time required by other makers. Savage prefit barrels can take as little as 4 to 6 wks to produce. Barrel blanks within 4wks.

They offer a huge range of barrel contours, cals and twists. Octagon, Dodecagon, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon, tapering octagon, 2 step octagon and Fluting are some of the many options you can choose when designing your dream barrel. All those trying to rebarrel their Sharps, Rem Rolling Blocks and Winchester of yesteryear, barrels can now be made to order.




Fluting is another service McGowen Barrels can offer. Both 6 and 8 flutes are available. #3 contour in a small calibre is the smallest barrel they can flute.

REMINGTON 700 PRECHAMBERED AND THREADED BARRELS:






I am glad to announce that Remington 700 shooters can enjoy the quick and easy barrel swaps that Savage owners have enjoyed for years.  I will be offering barrel nuts and McGowen Barrels with all the same options as the Savage.  Please look at the McGowen Pricing above for full details and pricing.

The Barrel nut is $50 with the purchase of a barrel.  $60 by itself.

The nut uses the same readily available wrench used for the Savage.
